About Us

A Global Celebration of Culture and Creativity from Africa and the African Diaspora.

UWMFF is a global cultural movement dedicated to uplifting, celebrating, and amplifying the artistic voices of Africa and the African Diaspora. Hosted in Accra, Ghana—the cultural heartbeat of the continent—the festival merges music, film, culture, business, innovation, and heritage into a four-day experience of unity and creativity.

UWMFF is not just a festival; it is a bridge connecting global Black communities through storytelling, performance, shared history, and emerging opportunities.

WHY GHANA?

Ghana is a symbolic and spiritual home for millions across the African Diaspora. As the first African nation to gain independence, it remains a beacon of Pan-Africanism, diplomacy, and cultural leadership.

With global initiatives like Year of Return and Beyond the Return, Ghana has re-established itself as the center of diasporic reconnection and cultural revival. Accra—vibrant, artistic, modern, and historically rich—offers the perfect stage for UWMFF.

Relevant & Culturally Vibrant

Known for its warm hospitality, and rich traditions, Ghana offers an inviting environment for global visitors. From historic landmarks to vibrant nightlife and tourism experiences, the country provides the perfect setting for a world-class international festival.

Gateway to the African Diaspora

Ghana stands as the spiritual and cultural home for millions across the African Diaspora. Through historic initiatives like Year of Return and Beyond the Return, the country has become the leading destination for reconnection, cultural exploration, and global Black unity.

Thriving Creative & Innovation Hub

Accra is one of Africa’s fastest-growing centers for music, film, fashion, and technology. Its bustling creative scene, modern infrastructure, and world-class talent make Ghana the ideal location for a festival celebrating artistic excellence and global cultural exchange.
